Insulation Removal Toronto

Old insulation does not just underperform, it can actively harm the house.

Attic Insulation Removal

Attic removal is our most requested job: vacuum extraction of old loose fill, inspection of the deck and wiring, and a clean substrate for new spray foam. It is the step that turns an attic upgrade from covering a problem into solving it, and it is why we pair removal with attic insulation in a single visit.

Mold and Moisture Calls

If you have seen mold at a cold corner or smelled damp in a closet, the insulation behind that wall is usually part of the story. We remove the compromised material and seal the cavity with closed cell foam so the moisture path is gone. Call (647) 692-4276 or request your free estimate below.

When Material Has to Come Out

Four situations account for nearly all of it: water damage from a roof or plumbing leak, rodent contamination, smoke and soot after a fire, and material so settled or degraded it no longer performs. In each case the existing insulation is holding moisture, odour or contaminant, and anything laid over the top inherits the problem rather than solving it.

Vermiculite Has to Be Identified, Not Assumed

Older Toronto attics sometimes contain vermiculite, which cannot be treated as ordinary loose fill and must be identified and handled appropriately rather than vacuumed out with everything else. If what is up there looks like it might be vermiculite, the honest answer is to stop and establish what it is before anyone disturbs it. We will say so rather than proceeding.

How the Work Is Done

Material is vacuumed out through a hose into sealed bags rather than carried through the house, which keeps dust and contaminant out of the living space. The deck is left clean so whatever goes in next sits on a sound surface. Access, containment at the hatch and where the bags leave the property are all part of the job.

We Quote It as Its Own Line

Removal is slow, dirty work and the easiest item to bury inside a larger number. Pricing it separately lets you see what the clean-out costs against what the new insulation costs. When the existing material is sound, we can say so and leave it rather than having an incentive to pull out insulation that was doing its job.

Questions

Common questions

Why remove old insulation at all?

Damp, settled or damaged material underperforms and gets in the way of a correct new install; removing it lets us inspect and fix problems while they are small.

Is removal done the same visit as the new install?

Usually yes. Most projects pair removal with the replacement insulation in one scheduled visit.

How is the old material handled?

It is bagged, removed from the building and hauled away by the crew.
